Telecom service company Vodafone Idea (Vi), on Monday, said it upgraded its network capacity across four states, Kerala, Karnataka, Punjab, and Haryana, to boost its network with enhanced speed for Vodafone Idea users.
Across 14 districts in Kerala, Vi has installed the 900MHz spectrum at over 950 sites. In Punjab, it has upgraded 4G spectrum bandwidth in long-term evolution (LTE) 2500 from 10 MHz (megahertz) to 20 MHz in over 1200 sites.
In Karnataka, Vi has upgraded the spectrum bandwidth in LTE 2100 from 5MHz to 10MHz across more than 1,000 sites and in Haryana, the company upgraded the spectrum bandwidth in LTE 900 to 10MHz.
The increased network capacity will provide access to above 3 crore Vi customers in these states of India.
In 2023, based on a media report of Vi, the company acquired 6,237 MHz of spectrum with a total commitment of ₹18,800 crores ($2.27 billion). The company also acquired 850 MHz of mid-band 5G spectrum in its 17 priority circles and 5,350 MHz mm wave 5G spectrum in 16 circles.
The telecom company strengthened its Pan-India 4G footprint by acquiring additional 4G spectrum across 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 2500 MHz bands in 3 circles of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Punjab, added the report.
“The network upgrade across these four circles is a testament to our ongoing pan-national efforts to further empower our customers by unlocking the infinite benefits of the digital highway,” said, Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer at Vi.
The Mumbai–based telecom service provider was founded in March 1995, providing its services throughout India on voice and data services across 2G, 3G and 4G platforms.
