UCC Holding to Build Schools in Qatar Using World’s Largest 3D Printers

Qatari-based construction company UCC Holding has partnered with Denmark’s COBOD, a concrete 3D printing technology services provider, to supply the world’s largest third-generation 3D printers. The pioneering technology will be used to build two schools in Qatar, covering 40,000 square metres and aiming to set a Guinness World Record for the largest 3D-printed buildings.

The collaboration was formalised in a signing ceremony in Doha, attended by UCC Holding President Ramez Al Khayyat and COBOD CEO Henrik Lund-Nielsen. The project emphasises sustainability, with 3D printing reducing material waste and improving efficiency by minimising concrete use, aligning with Qatar’s sustainability goals under the Qatar National Vision 2030.

UCC Holding is one of the leading infrastructure companies in Qatar, consistently seeking innovative construction methods. COBOD is known for pushing boundaries in 3D printing technology for construction, leading to more sustainable building solutions.

“This partnership with COBOD is a significant leap for the construction sector, not only in Qatar but globally,” said Mr Moutaz Al Khayyat, Chairman of UCC Holding. “We always strive to adopt the latest technologies that contribute to sustainability and efficiency in our operations, and this project is aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030,” he added.

The construction of the schools is set to begin in 2025, with COBOD’s BOD XL printers playing a central role in delivering the world’s largest 3D-printed buildings.
