The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government said on Wednesday, it allocated a 2 billion AED ($545 million) fund to aid homeowners in repairing properties damaged due to recent heavy rainfall and flooding, based on the report of Khaleej Times.
Earlier this week, the Kingdom witnessed a year’s worth of rain in a single day, with 6.04 billion cubic meters recorded compared to the annual average of 6.7 billion cubic meters.
The initiative underscores the UAE government’s commitment to supporting citizens and residents during times of crisis, reaffirming its dedication to ensuring the well-being of its population.
In the year 2017, the kingdom launched UAE Energy Strategy 2050 intending to control the negative effects of climate change by emerging low-emission energy technologies, and the country’s commitment to the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
“The severity of the weather situation was unprecedented. But we are a country that learns from every experience and develops itself,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of UAE, reported Khaleej Times, on Wednesday.
The New York Times has reported due to the disaster about 21 people lost their lives, while basic logistic operations like flights out of Dubai and the metro were severely disrupted.
The UAR region is known for the regular implementation of cloud seeding techniques. Cloud seeding is a process in which chemicals are implanted into clouds, this technique is often used to increase rainfall in areas.
