TCS join hands with University of Tokyo for research

TCS has partnered University of Tokyo (UTokyo) to conduct academic-industry research. It is said in a statement that this partnership will address real world business and societal challenges.

“Society 5.0 is Japan’s concept for a better future, built around an inclusive, sustainable and knowledge intensive society, where information and services generate value underpinned by digital innovation and the various novel-technologies it produces,” Makoto Gonokami, President of UTokyo, said.

He also said that this collaboration will make India-Japan relationship strong and contribute to the growth of both the nations.

The aim of this strategic partnership is to drive Business innovations across four focus pillars.

1. Technological Collaboration:

The members from TCS’ research team and UTokyo’s Graduate School of Information will explore joint research on the ‘Future of work’. Through deployment of tele-robotics in unstructured environment, they are looking to explore the shared autonomy between robots and humans.

This project will hold TCS’ leading edge work in the field of cognitive robotics, looking at robotic solutions.

2. Talent Exchange:

Faculty from TCS’ Research & Innovation group will engage the undergraduate and postgraduate students of UTokyo through lecture programs with the field of robotics and embedded system. TCS Pace PortTM infrastructure used for Lecture programs. TCS create internship opportunities to the students and researchers of UTokyo.

3. Innovation:

The ideation and innovation is a common area of focus for the partners. The IIS, UTokyo’s DLX Design Lab’ will join with TCS’ service-design specialists to find solutions that will address real-world challenges of TCS customers.

4. Start-up Engagement:

TCS Co-Innovation Network (TCS COINTM) will incorporate with UTokyo’s start-up ecosystem providing global market access.

To oversee and convene the direction of engagement, a steering committee will be formed . The aim of the project is to deliver effective solutions to the challenges.
