Standard Chartered Targets Korea’s Ultra-Wealthy With New Hub
Global Bank Expands High-Net-Worth Services in Seoul's Affluent Apgujeong District

Standard Chartered Bank Korea (SCBK) has strategically opened a new private banking facility in Seoul’s Apgujeong-dong district.
Notably, this exclusive hub caters specifically to clients possessing deposits of at least Won 1bn ($680,000). Consequently, the Apgujeong Priority Private Centre becomes the bank’s 16th global wealth management location. Furthermore, this significant addition complements existing international centres in Singapore, Hong Kong, & the UAE.
Therefore, the move solidifies the bank’s commitment to the lucrative Korean retail banking sector. Additionally, SCBK plans to expand further into Busan & other affluent metropolitan regions soon. Regarding this growth, CEO Lee Kwang-hee emphasised their unique position as Korea’s only international retail bank.
He also noted that the bank aims to leverage global strategies for local financial solutions. Interestingly, Korean golf legend Pak Se-ri attended the opening ceremony as the centre’s inaugural client. Physically, the building spans six floors and features a private vault, a lounge, & eleven consultation rooms.
To support operations, twenty-two senior relationship managers will provide expert guidance alongside investment specialists. Moreover, Wealth CEO Judy Hsu indicated that this addresses a growing demand for tailored services. Previously, the bank reorganised in 2014 to sharpen its focus on such high-value wealth products.
