Shanghai Electric said its energy storage business of 100mw/100mwh REP1&2 Energy Storage Station project in Kent, UK, entered commercial operation on Wednesday.

The company said the development marks the grid connection of Fiskerton II-A solar project, final one of the eight solar projects in the country. Two projects are built in East and Southeast England, where power demand is among the highest across the nation in the coldest season, added the firm.

The eight projects connected to the grid over the past year include West Holcombe in Shillingford, Bishop’s Waltham in Winchester, Outwood in Billericay and Ingham in Bury St. Edmunds, Trowse Newton in Norwich, Sweeting Thorns in Scunthorpe, Low Farm in Grimsby and the eight project being Fiskerton II-A in Lincolnshire.

Shanghai Electric said the successful grid connection of Fiskerton II-A project in Lincolnshire will complete a series of eight solar projects in the UK, led by the firm. This, the company said, in turn, strengthens its position as a solar innovator dedicated to creating innovative and sustainable solutions to meet the growing demand for renewable energy sources.

The energy firm also said REP1&2 project was developed by Pacific Green and purchased by a subsidiary of Generali. It is officially operated by Shell Energy Europe Ltd and is set to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of the power system in the UK.
