Samsung Electronics presented its latest high-end foldable cell phones on Wednesday, maintaining pricing the same as last year in an effort to maintain its leadership in a developing niche sector. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 are the latest foldable phones.
Both phones, according to Samsung, are the company’s hardest foldable phones ever, due to stronger aluminium frames and Corning glass on the exterior that is more resistant to scratches and drop damage. The clamshell Galaxy Z Flip4 costs $999.99, while the top-tier Galaxy Z Fold4 with a 7.6-inch main screen costs $1,799.99 in the United States, the same as last year’s versions.
Samsung generally introduces new high-end phones, including those with foldable displays in August. It allows it to release its current flagships before Apple’s new iPhones, which are usually released in September. The Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4, as well as its newest earbuds, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro, will be available in certain markets such as the United States, portions of Europe, and South Korea beginning August 26.
According to the company’s most recent financial statement, filed on July 28, it intends to make foldable phones “mainstream.” It expects foldable phone sales to surpass those of its last premium smartphone, the Galaxy Note, in the second half.
In the first half of 2022, Samsung had a 62% market share in foldable smartphones, followed by Huawei at 16% and Oppo at 3%. After the latest launches, Counterpoint predicts that Samsung’s share will be about 80% in the second half. Samsung stated that it expects foldable phone sales to exceed those of its previous top smartphone, the Galaxy Note, in the second half.
Although the entire smartphone industry is expected to fall this year as customers spend less, researchers predict that foldable smartphones would do better due to their unique form factor, huge screens, and mobility.
