Sam Altman to Return as CEO, Says OpenAI

ChatGPT parent OpenAI said on social media platform X, it has reached an agreement for Sam Altman to return as chief executive officer of the company, on Wednesday.

The company, on its social media platforms, also posted Altman will return to OpenAI with a new initial board consisting of Bret Taylor, former Salesforce CEO, Adam D’Angelo, CEO at Quora, and Larry Summers.

Greg Brockman posted on X, “Returning to OpenAI & getting back to coding tonight.”

“I love OpenAI, and everything I’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together,” said Altman and continued, with the new board and Satya’s support, he’s looking to return to OpenAI, and build on a strong partnership with Microsoft.

OpenAI, earlier this week, appointed Emmett Shear, former CEO of Twitch to fill in as interim executive chief. The announcement was not well received by the employees of the company. Over 700 employees placed a demand to bring in Altman and Brockman to their former roles and a revision of board members, else they would choose to quit their positions and follow Altman to work with Microsoft Corp.

The company’s board terminated Altman as CEO, a week ago. The board members, then said, “He was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities”, and added, “The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.”
