Climate technology company Partanna Arabia collaborated with real estate developer ROSHN, on Thursday, with an aim to construct a carbon-negative concrete production facility in the Saudi Arabia region.
The firm said, when operating at full capacity, the facility has the potential to generate 1.3 million carbon credits annually.
Cement and concrete producer said the facility initially produced carbon-negative pavers, having the potential to produce blocks, tile, precast and pour-in-place solutions over time.
This collaboration will generate employment opportunities which align with ROSHN’s goal to construct about 400,000 homes, 1,000 kindergartens and schools, and more than 700 mosques by 2030, said Partanna.
Partanna’s concrete formula, is made of recycled ingredients, notably brine, which eliminates the need for Portland cement and heat in production, said the firm. The patented mixing process releases new compounds that react and naturally absorb CO₂ (carbon dioxide), making Partanna materials carbon-negative without relying on costly CCUS (carbon capture, utilization and storage) technology, added the firm.
Home builder ROSHN is a real estate enabler, founded in 2020, specializing in the development of sustainable urban experiences. The firm is powered by the public investment fund. Their vision for 2030 is to improve the quality of life for the residents addressing housing demands, creating new jobs and advancing key sectors such as construction and infrastructure.
Partanna is a technology company that delves into commercially scalable carbon-removal solutions. The innovations of the firm can generate tech-based carbon removal credits in a fast-growing global market. By delinking development from pollution, the firm aims to build infrastructure positively.
