Cloud solutions provider Oracle Corp, on Wednesday, revealed the company will invest over $8 billion to feed the growing demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) endeavours in Japan over the next decade.
This substantial commitment underscores Oracle’s dedication to bolstering Japan’s digital transformation, said the company.
The tech firm also said the investment will primarily target the expansion of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s (OCI) presence throughout Japan and the augmentation of local support teams to meet data sovereignty requirements.
International tech companies have begun to invest in cloud computing and AI to explore opportunities to boost their work abilities and services in diverse regions across continents, and with Japan being the hub for companies that work with tech and AI, it provides a wider prospect of growth.
Global tech giant Microsoft, a week ago, said it would invest $2.9 billion in Japan, which will be initiated over the next two years to increase its hyper-scale cloud computing and AI infrastructure in Japan.
Oracle said the company is looking to boost the local customer support of its public cloud regions in Tokyo and Osaka, while also increasing its local operations teams for Oracle Alloy and OCI Dedicated Region.
Toshimitsu Misawa, Corporate Executive at Oracle Japan said, “By growing our cloud footprint and providing a team to support sovereign operations in Japan, we are giving our customers and partners the opportunity to innovate with AI and other cloud services while supporting their regulatory and sovereignty requirements.”
