Microsoft appointed Mustafa Suleyman, Co-Founder of Google’s DeepMind as Executive Chief of its newly launched division Microsoft AI on Tuesday, while also naming Karén Simonyan as Chief Scientist of the new wing.
The new division will focus on advancing consumer artificial intelligence (AI) products and research, which includes Copilot, Bing, and Edge, said the firm.
Suleyman, before taking over the new role, worked with Greylock, financial service provider, as a Venture Partner for over two years. He has also co-founded DeepMind and has been with Google for about a decade.
As part of the restructuring, the global tech giant said Mikhail Parakhin, CEO of Microsoft Advertising with his team, as well as Misha Bilenko, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft GenAI, along with his team, will move to report to Suleyman.
Simonyan has an outstanding academic contribution, where he has published many research papers including, five papers in Nature and Science attached over 180,000 citations.
Most recently, he co-founded Inflection AI, along with Suleyman, where Simonyan was also the Chief Scientist for over two years. He was involved in the early development of AI breakthroughs over the past decade including AlphaZero.
Several members of the Inflection AI team opted to join their founders at Microsoft, said the firm including AI engineers, researchers, and builders around the world.
