Oversight Board, independent body overseeing AI-generated content on Meta platforms said it will evaluate the two cases on Tuesday, involving deepfake pornography circulated on Facebook and Instagram to review Meta’s policies.
The Meta-funded firm said it will assess whether the company’s policies and its enforcement practices are effective at addressing explicit AI-generated imagery. Additionally, the board looks to issue policy recommendations to the Facebook parent.
The first case included an AI-generated image of a nude public figure woman posted on Instagram, based in India. The account shared AI-generated images of Indian women. The second case concerns an image of a popular American public figure posted on a Facebook group.
Off late, most tech companies have been investing to launch creative applications and software with the use of artificial intelligence. Despite the excitement brought by each platform, the risks and threats that are carried along has questioned the security measures of companies.
A week ago, Instagram said it is testing a new feature to eliminate sextortion and intimate image abuse for its teen users, which will make it more difficult for potential scammers as well as criminals to find and interact with teens.
American artificial intelligence company OpenAI Inc, earlier this month, said it is expanding its venture into text-to-audio AI model Voice Engine, which can create emotive and realistic voices using text input and a single 15-second audio sample. However, Chat GPT owner emphasized the possible misuse of Voice Engine and said it will deploy this technology with caution and care.
Founded in 2020, the Oversight Board is an independent body which looks to ensure respect for free expression and to provide oversight as well as accountability.
