Multinational federation of companies Mahindra Group collaborated with Johnson Controls to decarbonize India’s public, commercial, and residential buildings by launching the net zero buildings initiative, on Wednesday.
Legislative bodies across developed countries enacted regulations aimed at reducing emissions, and investors made net-zero pledges. According to McKinsey’s research, real estate accounts for about 39% of global emissions, of which, production of building materials accounts for around 11%.
As part of a year-long roadshow, Mahindra and Johnson Controls intend to launch the effort in March 2024 through online and in-person workshop sessions, said the company and added, Mahindra Group will collaborate closely with state and federal governments in India, as well as think tanks and trade associations.
“The joining together of our two companies to develop this initiative is a natural fit,” said George Oliver, CEO of Johnson Controls.
Recently, Mahindra Lifespaces introduced a Carbon Calculator which is designed for user-friendly interaction, with an aim to drive change, towards a greener and more sustainable future.
In September 2023, Johnson Controls and British Telecom (BT) collaborated to help business customers in the UK and internationally, to reach net zero faster while reducing operating costs.
Founded in 1945, the Mumbai-based Mahindra Group has a presence in renewable energy, agriculture, logistics, hospitality and real estate.
