Motor vehicle manufacturers Hyundai Motor and Kia Corp, on Wednesday, collaborated with Samsung Electronics to provide car-to-home and home-to-car service to its customers, along with enhancing the connectivity between residential and mobility spaces.
The firm said the newly built collaboration aims to integrate Hyundai and Kia’s connected car services and Samsung’s Internet of Things (IoT) platform called SmartThings. This will allow car owners to monitor and control their vehicles using the vehicle manufacturers’ mobile app.
South Korea-based Hyundai said this agreement will enable customers of both automotive companies to remotely control digital appliances via touch and voice commands through their cars’ in-car infotainment systems. Additionally, the firm also said this innovation will allow customers to have remote vehicle control via AI speakers, TVs, and smartphone apps to control various vehicle functions.
Car-to-home service will minimize device usage while driving, said the firm. Also, electric vehicle owners can use SmartThings’ to check the energy usage of their home and vehicle and adjust the optimal charging times.
Vehicle manufacturers said they look to expand their services to overseas customers by linking the connected car platforms and Samsung SmartThings by developing stable service-providing infotainment systems and subsequently providing these features through over-the-air (OTA) and USB-based updates even for existing vehicles.
Hyundai and Kia have already been providing car-to-home and home-to-car services like lighting, plugs, gas shut-off valves, ventilation, air conditioning, and boilers in collaboration with telecommunication companies and construction companies.
