GOJEK adds DBS PayLah! to payment options
The Indonesian ride-hailing giant hopes to change this by adding a new digital payment method. Users may now pay for trips with DBS bank’s PayLah! mobile wallet, the bank, and Gojek announced on Thursday (June 13).
Besides the new option, riders may pay for Gojek trips with their credit or debit cards or cash.
Cash makes up about 35 per cent of Gojek’s daily ride-hailing transactions. Credit or debit cards form about 65 per cent.
DBS and Gojek said that this allowed them to encourage users who may not have a debit or credit card and who are looking for e-payment options to go digital via PayLah!, which has more than one million users in Singapore.
Another ride-hailing company, Grab, told TODAY that cashless payments form nearly 80 per cent of daily transactions on its transport service.
This is done through GrabPay cash credits, credit or debit cards, or via its payment partners such as PayPal and UnionPay.
This means that cash makes up about 20 per cent of fares.
“Based on our data, the number of GrabPay cashless users has increased by about 50 per cent in the past year. We have also observed an increasing number of Grab users adopting GrabPay credits as their preferred payment mode,” Grab’s spokesperson said.
Gojek, when asked how its present rate of cash and cashless transactions compares with November last year — when the firm started operations here — said that it has since recorded a “consistent increase” in digital payments among riders. Its spokesperson said: “We constantly want to offer our riders greater choice and flexibility in payment methods so that they can enjoy a more seamless travel and payment experience with every ride.”
