GE Vernova Rolls Out First H-Class Turbine in Saudi Arabia

Electric services company General Electrics Vernova announced the successful rollout of its first H-class gas turbine unit at the GE Saudi Advanced Turbines (GESAT) facility in Dammam on Friday. This turbine will power the Jafurah Cogeneration Independent Steam and Power Plant (ISPP), which is anticipated to be the most efficient power plant in Saudi Arabia.

The H-class turbines are highly efficient, hydrogen-ready, and designed to adjust for grid stability amid increasing renewable energy integration quickly. The rollout ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minister of Energy, and Joseph Anis, President and CEO of GE Vernova’s Gas Power business in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

GESAT, a joint venture between Dussur and GE Vernova, is the first facility in the region to manufacture H-class gas turbines and components. The Jafurah ISPP project aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to diversify the economy and develop local skills. By 2030, the Jafurah gas field is expected to produce significant amounts of natural gas liquids and ethane.

“GE Vernova has close to 90 years of legacy in the Kingdom, reflecting our strong commitment to advancing the country’s goals for energy security, economic diversification, and talent development under Saudi Vision 2030,” said Joseph Anis, CEO of GE Vernova’s Gas Power business in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

To further support economic diversification, GE Vernova signed an MoU with the Saudi Export-Import Bank (EXIM) to enable the export of goods and services from Saudi Arabia. GE Vernova, which began trading as an independent company on April 2, 2024, generates about 25% of the world’s electricity with its technology, playing a significant role in the energy transition.
