The National Bank of Dubai (NBD), on Friday, in the Middle East, North Africa, and Türkiye (MENAT) region, received a LEED certification for twelve of its branches from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), with seven branches in the UAE and five in Saudi Arabia being recognized for their sustainability efforts.
The branches in the UAE, including those at Yas Mall, Al Reem Mall, and Deira City Centre, earned LEED Platinum status, while the Al Zahia Mall branch achieved LEED Gold.
In Saudi Arabia, Emirates NBD’s KAFD branch in Riyadh became the first bank branch in the kingdom to achieve LEED Platinum certification, complemented by six branches earning LEED Gold.
Emirates NBD demonstrates its commitment to sustainability through these certifications, highlighting the bank’s optimized energy performance, waste management, water use reduction, and use of low-emitting materials. This accomplishment underscores the bank’s ongoing dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
“We are delighted to achieve LEED Platinum and Gold ratings across fourteen of our UAE and Saudi Arabia bringing our total LEED-certified branches to 27,” said Eman Abdulrazzaq, Group Chief Operating Officer at Emirates NBD.
Vijay Bains, Chief Sustainability Officer of ESG at Emirates NBD, added, “This demonstrates our commitment to delivering global standards for sustainability and supporting the UAE’s Net Zero goals.”
The LEED framework, developed by the USGBC, is the foremost program recognized for implementing sustainable strategies. Emirates NBD first received LEED certification for several branches in 2020, positioning itself as a leader in sustainable banking in the region. As the Principal Banking Partner for COP28, Emirates NBD continues to play a significant role in advancing the UAE’s sustainability agenda.
