Energy company CNOOC Ltd, on Tuesday, said Mero2 Project, the second assignment of the development plan commenced production safely.
The company said the development plan began its production at Mero, Brazil’s well-known oilfield, located in the Santos Basin pre-salt southeastern offshore Brazil. Mero includes four production units namely, Mero1, Mero2, Mero3, and Mero4.
Mero1 commenced its production on May 3, 2022, in the same location as Mero2. It includes six producing wells and seven injectors currently and has the capacity to produce 180,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
Mero2 Project is the second venture commissioned in the field following Mero1. The project is located in a water depth of between 1,800 and 2,100 meters, about 180 kilometers away from Rio de Janeiro. This is foreseen to be developed by traditional deep-water pre-salt development mode, FPSO+Subsea, said the subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corp.
On Sunday, Brazil-based Petrobras said its floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit called Sepetiba started production in Mero oilfield. The fuel producer said Sepetiba is the third production unit installed in Mero, while two more units are soon to be added.
The Hong Kong-based company said Mero2 project also includes 16 development wells, including eight production wells and eight injectors with the production capacity of the project being 180,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
The FPSO used in Mero2 Project was constructed in China in June 2023, and arrived in Brazil in September, having a designed storage capacity of about 1.4 million barrels, the company added.
