BP’s electric vehicle charging brand BP Pulse acquired GSE Group-owned Ashford International Truckstop in Kent, a truck transportation halt area. This area is considered to be one of the largest truck stops in Europe.
BP Pulse said the acquisition is with an objective to create a Europe-wide network of electric truck electric vehicles (EV) charging infrastructure as well as to meet the comprehensive needs of UK and European HGV operators transitioning to EVs.
The company said in this agreement, BP Pulse will lease back the site to Ashford International Truckstop to GSE Group to operate the existing site facilities and secure parking on a long-term lease.
The site is located at Junction 10 and 10a of the M20 close to Dover, one of the busy ferry ports in the UK and LeShuttle Freight via the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone.
The company added the site attracts about 3.5 million Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), which travel across the channel in a year.
BP’s subsidiary also said Ashford International Truckstop can host about 20 mega-watt chargers (MCS), 10*400KW (kilowatts) and 125*100 KW chargers, spreading across 21 acres.
Earlier this year, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi-owned ADNOC and BP were on board to form a Joint Venture (JV) in Egypt, where BP holds 51% and ADNOC holds 49%. The collaboration is to combine both the firm’s technical capabilities to grow a highly competitive gas portfolio.
