The Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) announced the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with American companies to advance lower-carbon energy solutions.
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, and the US Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm.
The agreements involve collaborations with the climate tech companies Aeroseal, Spiritus, and Rondo, a manufacturer of renewable energy semiconductors. With Aeroseal, Aramco aims to deploy its technology in its buildings, pursue joint testing, commercialise new applications, and localise the supply chain in Saudi Arabia.
The partnership with Spiritus is centred around exploring new opportunities for direct air capture technologies to enhance carbon adsorption efficiency. The agreement with Rondo will explore deploying heat batteries in Aramco’s global facilities to support emissions reduction.
“Aramco has stated its ambition to achieve net zero and greenhouse gas emissions across its wholly-owned operated assets by 2050 and sees opportunities to potentially develop a lower-carbon new energy business,” said Ali A. Al-Meshari, Senior Vice President of Technology at Aramco. “We see the technologies of Aeroseal, Spiritus, and Rondo as having the potential to scale globally, specifically in the Middle East,” he added.
