Global e-commerce platform Amazon, on Wednesday, invested $2.75 billion in Anthropic, marking its total investment to $4 billion for a minority ownership position in the AI company.
Last September, the multinational online shopping platform initiated the partnership agreement with an initial investment of $1.25 billion, said Amazon. The collaboration aims to bring advanced generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) technologies to customers worldwide, added the tech company.
The rival of OpenAI looks to leverage Amazon Web Services (AWS) as well as use AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips to build, train, and deploy its future models and provide the customers of AWS with access to its upgraded models on Amazon Bedrock.
Earlier this month, Amazon launched Anthropic’s Claude 3 family of state-of-the-art models on Amazon Bedrock, which enhances the ability of customers to rapidly test, build, and deploy generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) applications across their enterprises.
Swami Sivasubramanian, Vice President of Data and AI at AWS said, “Generative AI is poised to be the most transformational technology of our time, and we believe our strategic collaboration with Anthropic will further improve our customers’ experiences, and look forward to what’s next.”
The company said companies across the globe of all sizes are actively engaged in using Amazon Bedrock to build their Gen AI applications with Anthropic’s Claude AI. This collaboration also enhances the accessibility to customize GenAI applications to the individual needs of customers.
