France’s EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power Co Ltd (KOWEPO), through their joint venture Wadi Noor Solar Power Company SAOC, officially inaugurated Oman’s largest solar power plant, Manah 1, during a ceremony attended by HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said and other senior officials.
The 500 MW solar facility, located in the Ad Dhakiliyah governorate, aims to power over 60,000 Omani households while reducing carbon emissions by 780,000 tonnes annually.
The Manah 1 Solar PV project features cutting-edge technology, including 1 million bifacial photovoltaic modules mounted on single-axis trackers. Spanning 7.8 square kilometres, the plant utilises automated dry-cleaning robots, ensuring sustainability by avoiding water use.
The facility represents a significant leap in Oman’s renewable energy capacity, doubling it from 550 MW to 1,050 MW, and supports the country’s increasing electricity demand, which peaked at 7,500 MW in 2024.
Manah 1 is a collaborative effort between EDF Renewables and KOWEPO, each holding a 50% stake in the project. The solar park is part of Oman’s broader strategy to enhance energy security and sustainability while aligning with Oman Vision 2040.
“We are proud to celebrate the inauguration of the Manah I Solar Plant in Oman, a significant milestone achieved thanks to the strong support of local authorities, NAMA Power and Water Procurement, and the outstanding dedication of the project team and our partner KOWEPO,” said Cedric Le Bousse, Executive VP International Operations of EDF Renewables.
Jungbok Lee, CEO of KOWEPO, said, “Today, we take yet another significant step toward Oman’s sustainable energy future.” He added, “KOWEPO is honoured to be part of the journey to achieve the ambitious goals of Oman Vision 2040.”
The Manah 1 solar project reinforces Oman’s commitment to decarbonisation, providing a scalable model for renewable energy adoption across the region.
