Arabsat Signs MoU to Establish Long-Term Partnership with Telesat

Satellite service provider Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat), on Wednesday, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Telesat to establish a long-term partnership with the Canada-based satellite operator.

The company said this partnership looks to integrate Telesat Lightspeed LEO (Low Earth Orbit) network with Arabsat’s multi-orbit offering in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Also, it said the partnership is aimed at collaborative efforts to commercialize Telesat Lightspeed constellation in the MENA region as well as cooperation on regulatory aspects and orbital resources.

Telesat developed Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, integrated with on-ground data networks. Telesat Lightspeed can support both electronically steered antennas (ESAs) and mechanically directed antennas for commercial, government, and defence markets.

The project aims to create numerous satellites in low earth orbit, said the firm. The constellation will work with terrestrial landing stations and points of presence (PoPs), offering worldwide broadband services and solutions to clients, added the firm.

“Arabsat is eager to contribute our robust communications capabilities and the strength of our satellite network to bolster Telesat’s ambitious project, in line with our commitment to advancing the future of digital connectivity,” said Wael AlButi, Chief Commercial Officer of Arabsat.

Riyadh-based Arabsat is a satellite and Internet broadcast services provider in Arab countries, owning two Satellite control stations in Riyadh and Tunis. The firm provides its services to broadcast firms as well as radio stations.

Arabsat, collaborated with Paris-based, defence, and space manufacturing firm Aldoria at the event LEAP 2024 to collaborate on enhancing space safety and security, on Thursday.
