Samsung Partners with Tesla for SmartThings Energy

Appliances and consumer-based tech firm Samsung Electronics, on Sunday, joined forces with Tesla, car maker, connecting SmartThings Energy to Tesla products like Powerwall home batteries, Solar Inverter, Wall Connector charging solutions, and electric vehicles (EVs).

The South Korean-based firm said this collaboration will be signed at the tech event CES 2024, to expand SmartThings Energy’s level of connectivity and provide a seamless home experience for its customers.

Samsung said with this collaboration the clients will be able to prepare for power disruptions and outages through SmartThings Energy’s synced with the Tesla app’s Powerwall, Storm Watch function.

The company added, that during extreme weather conditions like typhoons or heavy snowfall, customers will receive alerts on Samsung TVs, mobiles, and Tesla’s app which will activate AI Energy Mode to optimize Tesla Powerwall backup energy during power outages.

Storm Watch is a feature of Tesla, designed to protect users in extreme weather conditions. This feature will allow customers to maximize savings by keeping a low backup reserve percentage in a self-powered or time-based control mode.

Severe weather is the leading cause of grid outages. Storm Watch allows you to maximize savings by keeping a low backup reserve percentage in Self-Powered or Time-Based Control mode, while still having peace of mind that Powerwall will automatically react to protect you during a severe weather event.

“Tesla Energy’s customers can now manage and monitor the power status of their homes through SmartThings Energy and Samsung devices in addition to the Tesla app, ensuring more access and connectivity,” said Chanwoo Park, Head of IoT Development Team of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics.

“This new collaboration is a key milestone for Samsung Electronics in making our solution more widely available beyond home appliances,” added Park.
