Amazon-owned Amazon Web Services (AWS) said it will launch an independent cloud AWS European Sovereign Cloud on Wednesday. This cloud will first be launched in Germany and the company said it will be fully operational to all European customers.
The subsidiary of Amazon targets to support public sector customers and those in highly regulated industries to meet the strict regulatory data residency and operational requirements.
The global cloud service provider said AWS European Sovereign Cloud will operate separately from existing AWS regions, providing similar services like security, availability and performance.
The data will not be accessible without the permission of customers. AWS employees located in the EU will only be able to access data with restricted permissions.
“The AWS European Sovereign Cloud reinforces our commitment to offering AWS customers the most advanced set of sovereignty controls, privacy safeguards, and security features available in the cloud,” said Max Peterson, vice president of Sovereign Cloud at AWS.
Peterson also said, “With this new offering, customers and Partners across Europe will have more choice to achieve the operational independence they require, without compromising on the broadest and deepest cloud services that millions of customers already know and use today.”
