IUMI announces new executive appointments

New members of the Executive Committee and Nominating Committee, as well as the President and Vice President, have been chosen by the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) Council for the years 2022–2023.

In addition to Kosuke Hashimoto of Japan and the General Manager of Maritime Underwriting at Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance serving as Vice Presidents, Frédéric Denèfle, Managing Director of French marine war risks specialist GAREX, has been named President. Vice President is a brand-new post. Richard Turner, the incumbent president, has resigned after serving his full four-year term.

All IUMI meetings are presided over by the IUMI President, who also serves as chair of the organization’s council and executive committee. The 41 national Member Associations are represented on the IUMI Council, which meets once a year. The Council chooses the members of the Executive Committee and Nominating Committee, as well as the audits of IUMI’s finances.

IUMI’s management and administration are the responsibility of the Executive Committee by the Council’s general policy. The Secretary-General is chosen by the Executive Committee, which also has the authority to assist in the establishment of Representative Forums.

44 national and marine market insurance and reinsurance associations are represented by the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI). By effectively representing and lobbying on behalf of the global marine insurance industry, it operates at the forefront of marine risk and gives that market a single voice.

IUMI strives to improve industry standards by serving as a venue for the discussion of best practices. IUMI also offers opportunities for education and the gathering and publication of data on the sector. IUMI was founded in 1874 and has its main office in Hamburg.
