World’s largest net zero community unveiled in Kuwait by UAE’s URB

The plans for XZero City, a sustainable neighbourhood in Kuwait that aspires to provide 100,000 residents with a net-zero-carbon lifestyle, have been unveiled by Dubai-based developer URB. According to the developer, the 1,600-hectare project in the country’s south will comprise 30,000 houses and generate 30,000 green employments in industries including healthcare, tourism, technology, education, retail, and entertainment.

A five-star eco-resort and eco-lodges are among the hospitality resources intended to support sustainable tourism. A nature-conservation centre, utility park, autism village, equestrian centre, wellness centre, childcare, and school are also in the works.

XZero has been created to offer multifunctional, holistic solutions that meet the three main pillars of sustainability: social, economic, and environmental, according to URB, which portrays itself as “a global leader in constructing sustainable cities.” According to the statement, the plans were developed using passive design principles and environmentally friendly infrastructure to reduce required financial outlays while optimising environmental advantages.

Several sustainable towns, including newly inaugurated projects like AlNama in Riyadh and Nexgen in Cairo, have been designed by URB CEO Baharash Bagherian.

“The heart of this project is the unique, resilient landscape, which is multifunctional and designed to promote health, well-being and biodiversity. The landscape is the social glue to the entire city, which will promote a vibrant neighbourhood while connecting residents to all amenities within minutes,” he said. “The landscape is integrated with wadis to enhance resilience and liveability while also promoting a variation of habitats of wildlife.”

Primary and secondary pedestrian routes would be well-shaded and connect with green transportation choices including bike lanes and electric buggies, according to URB, who claimed that XZero is built and optimised to be the most walkable metropolis on earth. According to URB, the density of XZero has also been adjusted to maximise the amount of green space, which will serve to reduce the effects of rising temperatures and urban heat islands and provide a cooler environment.
