Two of the biggest commercial aircraft types now in operation, the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777, will have their whole interior cabins upgraded as part of Emirates’ ongoing efforts.
In order to ensure that Emirates’ customers “fly better” in the upcoming years, this enormous project, which represents a multi-billion-dollar investment, will formally begin in November and will be totally controlled by Emirates’ Engineering team.
The goal is to thoroughly convert four Emirates airplanes each month for a period of more than two years. 53 777s will get their makeover once the 67 A380s that are designated for it are updated and put back into service. When the project is finished in April 2025, there will be close to 4,000 brand-new Premium Economy seats installed, 728 First Class suites renovated, and more than 5,000 Business Class seats upgraded to a new style and design.
Additionally, the interior panels of the cabins will be updated with new colors and design themes, including the unique ghaf trees that are native to the UAE, as well as refurbished carpets, stairs, and interior panels.
There is no plan in place for such a project, and no other airline has managed a refurbishment of this size internally. In order to design and simplify procedures, and identify and fix any potential hiccups, the engineering teams have conducted significant planning and testing.
Trials on an A380 started in July, during which skilled engineers literally disassembled each cabin piece by piece and meticulously recorded their progress. Every step, including removing paneling, seats, and screws and bolts, was planned, timed, and tested.
Potential obstacles to completing the conversion of the remaining three cabins or the installation of the new Premium Economy Class cabins in just 16 days were identified and documented for expert teams to assess and address.
